October 2014 News Letter

Hi All

And welcome to the first news letter from the Taranaki Triathlon Club for the new season. Planning is now well under way for the year.

We have built a new website where you can find out about all our events for the coming season. Please visit: www.tritaranaki.nz

All venues are booked and confirmed we are good to go.

Club Events (Seven Races)

01 November 2014 (Saturday) – 09:00am. Taranaki Cycle Park, St Andrews Drive, Hickford Park, Bell Block. Team fun cycle and run.

This is a fun event focussed on participation and introducing new people to multisport. We would strongly encourage you to help build up club numbers by inviting friends, family, or work colleagues to make up your team of three for this event. Each team member will run 2kms, then cycle 6.8kms, then run 1km before tagging their team mate. Run-1 is on Hickford Park, the cycle leg is on the New Plymouth cycleway, Run-2 is on the New Plymouth walkway.

23 November 2014 (Sunday) – 09:00am. Jubilee Park, Corner Rata and Elliot Streets, Inglewood. Duathlon.

Unlike previous years this race will be a Duathlon (long and short versions). We are unable to use the Inglewood pool due to recent arson damage. With the above two events completed you will be ready to hit the water at our next event for the first Triathlon of the season.

20 December 2014 (Saturday) – 02:00pm. Lake Ratapiko, Ratapiko Road (Inland from Tariki). Triathlon/Duathlon

The iconic Lake Ratapiko course provides a bit more of a challenge with a fresh water (flat calm) lake swim and some hills to navigate on the bike and run legs.

18 January 2015 ((Sunday) – 09:00am. Ngamotu Beach, Ocean View Parade, New Plymouth. Triathlon/Duathlon

We return to the first of our three Ngamotu events. A fantastic venue and a wonderful course. Inner harbour swim (for our Triathletes) and a scenic coastal ride with spectacular views of the sugar loaf islands and Mount Taranaki for those who have time to look!!!

22 February 2015 (Sunday) – 2:00pm. Ngamotu Beach, Ocean View Parade, New Plymouth. Triathlon/Duathlon

Note the time change this is an afternoon event it is also the Taranaki Triathlon Club championships. We have brought the club champs into February this year to allow our university aged athletes a chance to compete plus allow our secondary school aged athletes a chance to then compete in next month’s TSSSA Triathlon. Both of these races have traditionally been held on the same day.

08 March 2015 (Sunday) – 09:00am. Ngamotu Beach, Ocean View Parade, New Plymouth. Triathlon/Duathlon

This event also doubles as the TSSSA Triathlon championships which will be the short course event and the Taranaki Masters games. So plenty of action for both young and how shall I say this …….. Slightly more mature athletes!!

12 April 2015 (Sunday) – 12:00 midday. Lepperton School, Whitcombe Street, Lepperton. Duathlon.

The final race of the year will be at Lepperton. This will also be the Taranaki Triathlon Clubs Duathlon Championships and the TSSSA Duathlon Championships (over the short course).

NEW EVENT FOR KIDS

The Taranaki SuperKidz TRYathlon series. This will be a five race series held throughout the warmer months of February and March. Each week the entire event will be held within the grounds of Francis Douglas Memorial College on Tukapa Street. It will be a reverse TRYathlon format (Run/Cycle/Swim). Full details including age groups and course sizes are available on our new website www.tritaranaki.nz and go to the SuperKidz page.

This series is all about family fun and participation. We would love to have some of our up and coming Triathletes there to help out and get kids through Transition. The timing of this series is designed to get Taranaki kids ready for the Weet-Bix Triathlon on the 01st April 2015.

12 February 2015 (Thursday) – 05:30pm. Francis Douglas Memorial College, Tukapa Street, New Plymouth.

19 February 2015 (Thursday) – 05:30pm. Francis Douglas Memorial College, Tukapa Street, New Plymouth.

26 February 2015 (Thursday) – 05:30pm. Francis Douglas Memorial College, Tukapa Street, New Plymouth.

05 March 2015 (Thursday) – 05:30pm. Francis Douglas Memorial College, Tukapa Street, New Plymouth.

12 March 2015 (Thursday) – 05:30pm. Francis Douglas Memorial College, Tukapa Street, New Plymouth.

New Plymouth ITU World Cup

This race returns to New Plymouth on the weekend of the 21st and 22nd March 2015. Last year club members and friends of the club hosted 30 athletes in 18 homes around New Plymouth. It’s fair to say that this was a wonderful experience for all involved. It was a tangible demonstration of the generosity of New Plymouth people who made these athletes so welcome in their homes. We expect to be doing the same early next year and if you would like to participate again or participate for the first time please contact Ross Dingle on 027 310 5112, or by email to ross@dingle.kiwi.
