2015/16 Season Launch Newsletter

Hi All

And welcome to the first newsletter from the Taranaki Triathlon Club for the new season. Planning is now well under way for the year, and we think this season is going to be pretty special.

Community Sports Advisor - Triathlon

This season we have also secured funding from the New Zealand Community Trust and Sport Taranaki to employ a “Community Sport Advisor – Triathlon”. This is a new role based at Sport Taranaki. The successful applicant will be Triathlon focussed and working with clubs, schools, and businesses to grow participation in Triathlon in Taranaki. This resource will also provide valuable assistance to the club in the planning, running and promotion of club events and the Taranaki SuperKidz TRYathlon series.

Club Events (Seven Races)

17 October 2015 (Saturday) – 02:00pm. Taranaki Cycle Park, St Andrews Drive, Hickford Park, Bell Block. Club Duathlons and the TSSSA Duathlon.

We are looking to restructure our duathlons to the front of the season and this includes the Duathlon club champs (next race). The reason being that with the National Duathlon Champs being held in mid-November we want to give our club members a really good build up with a couple of races before the National Championships. We are using this venue for the TSSSA duathlon and bringing it to the front end of the season in the hope of attracting greater numbers to a really safe and interesting venue.

31 October (Saturday) – 02:00pm. Lepperton School, Whitcombe Street, Lepperton. Duathlon.

Taranaki Triathlon Clubs Duathlon Championships

22 November 2014 (Sunday) – 09:00am. Jubilee Park, Corner Rata and Elliot Streets, Inglewood. Duathlon.

The Inglewood pool is back in action and we are pleased to be able to use it again for our first Triathlon of the season. As is usual at this venue we run the Triathlon in reverse. Run/Cycle/Swim. This is a really good opportunity for people who are less confident in the water to complete a Triathlon. If you run out of puff in the water, just stand up and take a couple of deep breaths!!. We will also run a short and long duathlon at this event.

19 December 2014 (Saturday) – 02:00pm. Lake Ratapiko, Ratapiko Road (Inland from Tariki). Triathlon/Duathlon

The iconic Lake Ratapiko course provides a bit more of a challenge with a fresh water (flat calm) lake swim and some hills to navigate on the bike and run legs.

17 January 2015 (Sunday) – 09:00am. Ngamotu Beach, Ocean View Parade, New Plymouth. Triathlon/Duathlon

We return to the first of our three Ngamotu events. A fantastic venue and a wonderful course. Inner harbour swim (for our Triathletes) and a scenic coastal ride with spectacular views of the sugar loaf islands and Mount Taranaki for those who have time to look!!!

20 February 2015 (Saturday) – 2:00pm. Ngamotu Beach, Ocean View Parade, New Plymouth. Triathlon/Duathlon

This is an afternoon event it is also the Taranaki Triathlon Club championships.

20 March 2015 (Sunday) – 09:00am. Ngamotu Beach, Ocean View Parade, New Plymouth. Triathlon/Duathlon

This event also doubles as the TSSSA Triathlon championships which will be the short course event.

10 April 2015 (Sunday) – 12:00 midday.

Work In Progress. The committee is considering an Xterra type event to finish off the season. We have a bit of work to do on locating a suitable venue, booking it and confirming details.

Taranaki SuperKidz TRYathlon Series

Returning for its second year. A five race series held throughout the warmer months of February and March. Each week the entire event will be held within the grounds of Francis Douglas Memorial College on Tukapa Street. It will be a reverse TRYathlon format (Run/Cycle/Swim). Full details including age groups and course sizes are available on our website www.tritaranaki.nz . Go to the SuperKidz page.

This series is all about family fun and participation. We would love to have some of our up and coming Triathletes there to help out and get kids through Transition. The timing of this series is designed to get Taranaki kids ready for the Weet-Bix Triathlon in early April. The event runs for five Thursdays starting on the 11th of February 2016. Race one starts at 5:30pm and it’s all over by about 6:30pm. Registrations and transition opens from 4:30pm.

Season Launch and AGM

Come along to the season launch on Monday 05th October at “The Good Home” 21 Ariki Street, New Plymouth. Starting with a mix and mingle at 7:00pm you will be able to talk with friends and committee members about the season ahead and review some of the highlights from the 2014/15 season. Hopefully we will have completed the recruitment of the Community Sports Advisor-Triathlon and will be able to introduce her/him to the club membership at this event. At 7:30pm we will have a presentation on the upcoming season and what to expect, we will finish with the Annual General Meeting.

If you are interested in a position on the committee please make yourself known to any of the existing committee members. Please note we will not be using this event as an opportunity to coerce people onto the committee. We are more interested in creating a little excitement and keeping you informed about the season ahead. If you happen to be interested in a role on the committee then that is an added bonus, as we do appreciate any help or assistance you are able to provide.
